NIHR and Janssen to study rheumatoid arthritis response to anti-TNF therapy

The U.K. National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Joint and Related Inflammatory Diseases Translational Research Partnership and Janssen have initiated a research study to investigate why approximately one-third of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) do not respond to treatment with a biological drug targeted against tumor necrosis factor (TNF).

The collaboration aims to identify mechanisms and molecular pathways associated with treatment failure or success. This information should enable the development of effective treatment for nonresponders. The trial started to enroll 50 patients with RA in January 2015 (National Institute for Health Research News Release).
